Cut Express is a video editing MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that connects AI assistants such as Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code to a cloud rendering pipeline. Users upload footage into the chat, describe the edit in plain language, and Claude writes a JSON timeline that Cut Express renders into a finished MP4.
Key features:
- Chat-driven editing: Claude inspects contact sheets and timestamped transcripts, selects the moments worth keeping, and removes pauses and false starts without any manual timeline work.
- Captions, looks and audio: Word-by-word captions in six styles, 73 cinematic looks with colour sliders, AI voice-over, 63 built-in sound effects, noise removal and automatic music ducking.
- Motion graphics and recreation: Animated titles, charts, counters, lower thirds and end cards, plus the ability to break down a reference reel shot by shot and rebuild it with the user's own footage.
- Editable JSON timelines: Every render keeps its timeline, so follow-up notes such as "make the intro tighter" or "now a 16:9 version" produce a new version without starting over.
Output is MP4 H.264 in 9:16 or 16:9, at 1080p on the Pro plan ($19/month, 60 render minutes) and 2K on Ultra ($49/month, 180 render minutes), each with a 14-day free trial. Content creators, streamers, podcasters and marketing teams producing Reels, Shorts, TikToks and YouTube videos are the primary audience.
