Overview
mxverify is a free backlink value checker that answers a question most link-building tools avoid: what is one followed link from a given website actually worth? Rather than reporting a vendor's own authority metric, it returns a BV score — an estimated dollar value for the ranking benefit a single new followed link from that site would provide. The service is aimed at SEOs, content marketers, link buyers and publishers who want an independent reference point to compare against the prices publications quote. No account is required, and every report is public.
Key features
- BV score per site — A dollar figure for one new followed link from the site, derived from the same model (BV 2.8) that the sister service bklink.uk applies to every link it audits.
- Link-type pricing (A–D) — Each site is priced by the kinds of links it realistically gives: A editorial (×1), B guest or sponsored post (×0.5), C press release, profile, listing or any nofollow link (×0.1), and D link-network link (×0.05).
- Up to 194 datapoints in 16 groups — Reports can include backlink counts, nofollow share, spam score, traffic estimates and monthly visits, AI assistant referral share, robots.txt access for AI crawlers, tech stack, Core Web Vitals, domain registration history, hosting and ASN details, Wikidata organisation data, social profiles and similar-site context — each figure with its source and date.
- Audited link behaviour — Where bklink has audited links placed on a publication, the report shows what percentage stayed followed, switched to nofollow or sponsored, or were removed or found dead.
- Link network detection — Shared servers are analysed for common footprints (nameservers, registration windows, registrar, theme, audited purchases); of 20 shared servers examined, 12 were classified as one-owner networks.
- Public reports and an API — Every valuation remains publicly viewable, and an API page is available for programmatic access.
Primary use cases
- Benchmarking a link quote — Before paying a publication for a guest post, a marketer can look up its BV score and the type-B value to see what the placement is worth in ranking terms versus what is being charged.
- Screening outreach lists — A link builder can check a prospect's spam score, nofollow share, hosting neighbours and network verdict to decide whether the site is a legitimate publication or part of a link scheme.
- Assessing large platforms — The site's own worked example, google.com, shows a ceiling of $1,829 for an editorial placement but a BV of $183, because the only links a business can realistically obtain there are type C listings.
What makes it different
The methodology is explicitly separated from price: mxverify sells no links, and no site pays to be listed, valued or excluded. The model combines Site Strength (half authority rating, half organic traffic on a log scale, halving roughly every 16 points below 100) with link type and topical relevance. Link types are read from actual bklink audits where they exist, and otherwise from mxverify's own reading of a site's homepage and up to ten recent articles. Every figure in a report carries its source and date, and the site publishes a methodology page plus a stated list of limitations.
Value proposition
mxverify gives link buyers and SEOs a transparent, source-attributed estimate of a backlink's ranking value before money changes hands, combining a published scoring formula, a growing audit dataset (4,447 links audited across 3,001 publications) and a large set of supporting site signals — all free and without sign-up.
